Chicago PD, episode twenty-two

Antonio is working out when Platt and Voight come in. Things are getting worse. The incident at the warehouse has moved on to IA. They need to take down Kelton before it’s too late. Luckily, Voight knows who is fix-it man is. They’ve gotta catch him real dirty to get him to flip. Atwater has a CI in the neighborhood and tries to get in that way. It doesn’t work but they do manage to set up some tracking equipment.

While the rest of the unit watches him, Ruzek meets with IA but he’s got nothing to say. He goes back to the district and tells Voight and Antonio what’s up. They need to get ahead of this. Platt interrupts. Kelton is inside and he wants them to look into a murder. Voight says they have it but he’s not really interested. He knows that Kelton is creating a diversion. Instead the unit raids a stash house off book and takes all the drugs and guns.

They do an inventory and Halstead admits that he plans to stick with Upton wherever they end up next. Ruzek admits that he’s been called in by IA again. This time the guy lays out a theory. He’ll bust Antonio and let him rot. He’s got 24 hours to decide what to do. Antonio meets with someone who knows the guy working this. He’ll dig though. Back in the unit, they have wires. They have audio of a meet being set up and move on it. They end up shot at. Their target is killed. Halstead and Upton are trapped in a van.

Atwater, Ruzek and Burgess give chase but they lose the guy. Kelton is pissed. Voight goes back at him though. Ruzek and Antonio go at each other too. Voight breaks them up and Upton explains their newest lead. The target had a burner and he was reaching out to Kelton for help. Now they have to find the shooter to take down Kelton. Kate digs around and finds that the whole thing was a set up. They know where to go and head out to pick up the shooter.

He’s arrested and brought to the cage. Dude has nothing on Kelton though so they are back to square one. Voight vows to protect everyone’s careers. Antonio meets with his buddy finds out that the IA cop’s daughter is a prostitute. He won’t use it though. Him and Ruzek meet up and they talk. There’s only one decision he can live with. They go back to the district and Voight asks one last time what they can do. With no options, they have to move on. Voight tries to talk to Ruzek but he walks out.

Voight is pissed and punches a wall. That’s where Halstead finds him and asks what’s up. They talk for a minute. Voight says he’s going to Kelton to make things right and tells Halstead he’ll run the unit and he should do it the right way. Halstead goes back upstairs and Upton tries to talk to him. Platt comes up. IA is there to arrest Ruzek but she wouldn’t let them upstairs.

She tells Ruzek to keep his head down. He kisses her on the cheek and tells her that he’ll be alright. He’s booked. Antonio takes a pill. Kelton wins the election. That night a call comes in. Atwater, Halstead and Burgess arrive on the scene. Kelton is dead. A few blocks away, Voight is driving in the other direction.

I like that Halstead is running the show. I don’t like that he will probably turn into Voight though. Also, did Antonio kill himself? And I don’t think Vought killed Kelton. I guess we’ll see.

Chicago PD, episode twenty-one

Antonio is at an NA meeting when Ruzek texts him for a meetup. Apparently the officer involved shooting case is back open. They’ve got to find a way to deal with it but first Atwater needs some backup at a drug deal. He’s just talking numbers to a new guy. They set up the buy for the next day but before they leave the new kid gets shot. The unit starts looking into it and they find that the kid has no gang affiliations. Antonio and Burgess go to talk to him mom.

They find a kilo of heroin, the stuff he was trying to sell. Voight is up to something himself. He leaks an email to the press about the serial killer that Kelton ignored. A little chat with a gang boss provides some information about a car fleeing. They find a van on surveillance and manage to track down the owner. It was owned by the manager at the restaurant the victim worked out. Carlos reported it stolen.

Antonio and Burgess go down and shake him up a bit. He calls his boss, a gang leader named Alex Del Toro with ties to the Mexican cartel. Voight goes to Kate and tells her what they are working on. She’s game for that but she’s mad at him for crossing Kelton with the leaked email. He doesn’t back down. Carlos and Alex are brought in and questioned. They don’t say anything and Alex lawyers up.

The unit has tracked down the van though and has a witness so they put Alex in a lineup for the guy to ID. He won’t though. Alex has his kids in Mexico. They need another way in. So they go back and search the restaurant and dig around. They find a ton of heroin that they figure they can use on Carlos to get him to talk about Alex. He still won’t though.

Ruzek pulls Antonio so they can talk to Voight. They need to find the detective Hernandez who told Kelton about the serial killer. Antonio goes to see an old friend, someone with an understand of the law and he explains a “hypothetical” situation like what happened when he killed the guy. His friend tells him if he comes clean, he goes to jail and Ruzek and Voight are done too.

They are still working on it though and manage to find the detective. They confront him and Voight gets him to talk to the reporter. Alex is free to go and passes the victim’s mom on his way out. She tells Antonio that Carlos came by and gave her money for the funeral. He sees it for what it is. Guilt money. Antonio goes back to Carlos and pushes him. It works. He confesses. As the ASA comes in for his statement, it’s all systems go to find Alex. Antonio and Ruzek head to the restaurant.

Carlos talked to protect his brother so they want to keep him safe. He’s gone though. Left with Alex about an hour earlier. They need to find them now. It’s a matter of life and death. They ping his phone and track him to a marina. Carlos’ brother is dead in his car. Antonio and Ruzek find Alex and chase him on foot. Shots are exchanged. In the end Antonio corners him on a roof. He seems like he’s about to throw him off but cuffs him at the last second. Ruzek also gets word that the story is a go. There is a press conference first though and Kate takes the fall for Kelton. Voight confronts her and she tells him she had no choice.

So Antonio is going down. Voight will manage to take out Kelton though. And something with Upton and Ruzek will blow up. That’s how this show works.

Chicago PD, episode twenty

It’s time for work. Ruzek and Upton are heading in together talking about what Kelton will do as mayor. They hear a call about a robbery and head over. They get there and they engage. There’s a man down in the street and shots are fired. The robbers get away with a van full of prescription pills, opioids and the driver ends up at Med. Intelligence takes the case.

They are all hands on deck and think this will be a gang involved situation. Antonio has a CI in the area but Voight wants Ruzek assisting. He doesn’t trust Antonio alone. They head down and meet a guy named Shaw. He’s a seller that they want to catch. He takes the bait and sets up a buy. They are on the one yard line, Ruzek with the money talking Shaw into giving him the pills when a cop drives by.

Shaw bails and the deal is off. Upton called in the backup and tells Ruzek to let it go. They need a new approach. They track down where he’s moving the pills and stake it out. That’s where they see a mover come out and then make a sale. Upton and Ruzek take the buyer while Atwater and Burgess chase the seller. He ends up jumping onto the El tracks and getting electricuted. They bring the buyer in.

While Upton talks to the buyer, Gina, Antonio runs the pills. Turns out it’s not an opioid. It’s enzyme medication. She needs it to stay alive. Burgess digs and finds that Gina’s husband is Shaw’s cousin. They’ll track her phone and catch Shaw that way. Sure enough she makes some calls. Then Antonio hears on the radio about another robbery in progress. It’s at a pharmacy. They roll out.

When Ruzek and Upton get there they find Bob the husband and a dead pharmacist. He could’ve made it out but tried to save the guy. Now he’s going down for murder and lawyer’s up because Shaw still has the medicine. After a talk with Upton, she agrees to wear a wire. It works but things of course go sideways. The team runs in and though Upton gets injured, they manage to bust Shaw.

The drugs, including Gina’s medication, are inventoried. Ruzek agrees to let Gina see Bob and Voight goes to see Kate. She took care of “their problem.” At the district, Platt offers some advice to Upton on her relationship with Ruzek. Go all in or let it go. Upton opts for the latter and they break up a short while later.

So this show always feels sort of PSA-ish but they reign it in for it can isolate certain parts of the fanbase. I think the whole “medication is expensive” thing was another one of those. Also, is Upton going to get with Halstead now?

Chicago Fire, episode twenty-two

Severide is working on the arson and now Kidd is ready to help. Outside everyone is setting up the rigs and razzing on each other when a car crashes near the driveway. It’s a little boy driving his mother who is in labor. He did good and mom and baby are doing well. After the baby girl is delivered the family is taken to the hospital. Herrmann tells Ritter he needs to learn to taunt people.

Kidd and Severide go over the arson including their information about the arsonist’s ex-husband. Boden calls Casey in to tell him that he’s been invited to a swanky party and needs a date. On his way out, he makes moony eyes at Brett. Herrmann starts a class on ball busting. Ritter seems uncomfortable and thankful when the alarm sounds.

It’s a car fire and there is someone inside. They get it out quick but they still don’t manage to save her. Herrmann notices gas cans and Severide recognizes the area and the car. It looks like the victim could be the arsonist but he calls the invewstigators to check cause he doesn’t buy it. Casey is getting ready to invite Brett to the shindig but they are interrupted by Herrmann and Ritter’s lessons.

Severide and Kidd are still working the arson case late into the night. He gets a call. The victim wasn’t the arsonist. After shift, they go to see the ex-husband. He tells them about his marriage and Kidd talks about her own. She tells him he deserves more and then realizes that the arsonist, Carol, already came back to him. She’s inside and both Severide and Kidd take off after her.

They get her and the arson captain congratulates Severide on a job well done. Herrmann has a chat with the city’s outgoing mayor at Molly’s and then Kidd shows up and is surprised Severide isn’t around. Brett and Kyle have a talk about him moving to Indiana but Casey sees and thinks they are back together. When Kyle leaves and Brett talks to Casey, he wishes them well and she doesn’t say anything.

Casey makes it to the bar and talks to Kidd for a minute about Severide. He’s not home. She knows where he is though. He’s at the cabin and he tells her he’s going to try and be the man she deserves. Then they have sex. They wake up and it’s still sunshine and rainbows. As everyone funnels into the house for shift Kyle shows up. He’s been thinking and he proposes to Brett. She accepts. Casey later congratulates her and she doesn’t seem thrilled but she’s still sticking with it.

Ritter tries to trash talk the chief and is saved by the bell. There’s a fire in a mattress factory and they are calling in back up to save the people trapped in the basement and knock out the fire. Truck and squad are inside. Boden is trying to coordinate. There are people dying as Kidd and Casey try and direct everyone to the ladders in the service elevator. Casey heads to the ground floor for a new air tank and calls in to Boden that they need help.

He asks for Foster and Brett to come in and help. Boden has them suit up and go in to help. That’s when Herrmann calls out that the breaker is going to blow. It might take the whole building with it. No one leaves though. Severide and Cruz are trying to get a fortified door open to save more people. Herrmann and Ritter are trying to buy them more time. Casey, Kidd and Mouch are going in deeper to help too.

I mean that was just awful. Like really that was just absolutely awful. I know they always have to leave it with a big cliffhanger but that was a bit much. Also, Brett accepting the proposal. That was dumb.

Chicago Fire, episode twenty-one

Severide, Boden and Casey talk about what Bennie had. It’s being handed off to the arson squad but Severide made some copies first. Mouch hangs up a poster about a retirement party for a firefighter at a different house and complains about one time the guy made him look bad.

Brett is now awkward around Casey. She tells Foster and Kidd what the spin instructor said and they are here for it. The alarm sounds. It’s some guys on a college campus being dumb. They are shooting Roman candles at each other and one guy managed to shoot off two of his own fingers.

Even as they help him out, his buddies keep playing and one hits Casey. Brett patches him up. When truck gets back to the house, Kyle is there. He chats with Casey for a minute and then starts making the rounds. Herrmann and Ritter stop by to see the guy retiring. It’s a nice chat. Severide goes by arson to drop off Bennie’s notes and gets pushy.

When squad gets back, Boden takes Severide aside and yells at him for interfering and then puts him on leave. He grumbles about it to Casey and then goes back to the scene and talks to the owner and a suspicious neighbor. After shift, Brett gives Casey grief for not changing his bandage. Then Casey goes by the arson office and tips her off to what Severide was looking into.

Then he heads over to Molly’s where everyone is hanging out raisign a glass for the guy retiring. It comes to a screeching halt though when he melts down. Severide follows him out. The next day, Severide is trying to track down a witness in one of the investigations. Casey suggests Kidd reach out to him and help him out.

The retiring guy, gave Mouch his best firefighter medal at Molly’s. Ritter and Herrmann realize something is up and swing by his house. His wife says he’s on shift but when Herrmann presses she admits that he moved out. Ritter finally tells Herrmann he’s worried the retiree may harm or kill himself.

Severide has tracked down the witness and after chatting with her, and snooping around her place, he realizes that Bennie didn’t believe her. He suspected her. And now she may have planted another timer in the basement of a church. Boden, Casey and 51 move on it. They evacuate the church and manage to stop the fire before it spreads.

When they get back to the house, Severide is there but before he and Kidd can really talk, the arson squad shows up and they bring him in for real. Herrmann, Ritter and some other folks go see the retiree and stage an intervention. Severide briefs everyone on what he knows about the arsonist.

Chicago Fire, episode twenty

Spring has sprung so Brett has decided to liven up the house with some flowers. Severide has a car full of Bennie’s stuff that Cruz is happy to help offload. Herrmann is in a he said/he said war with some guys from another house over some missing gear. The alarm sounds and it’s all hands on deck.

There is a salon fire and Severide helps an older woman that fell on the fire escape. Once he’s back on the ground a woman runs up to him. It’s the salon owner. Her dog is inside. Her whole life is inside. Mouch has the sniffles and blames the flowers. Boden got a bill for the missing gear from the other house. He stands up for his team though.

Brett has an awkward run-in with Kyle at the hospital, courtesy of Foster walking away at an inopportune time. Casey and Severide are called into Boden’s office to talk about the fire. Top brass is calling it arson but Severide doesn’t buy it. He wants to help with the investigation.

Otis is cleaning up and finds the missing gear. He tells the others and they devise a plan to drop it back off at the other house without anyone knowing. Severide and the arson squad go to talk to the owner. While he is earnest, the arson captain is argumentative. At the house, Brett and Casey have a talk about her breakup and moving on.

She gets a call to a scene. A woman got hurt at a spin gym. It’s the one Brett goes to. She and Foster help a girl with a head injury. On the way out, Brett chats with her instructor about finding men. The caper to replace the missing gear goes sideways and Herrmann and Brett flee, leaving the others to fend for themselves.

At Molly’s Brett approaches Casey about dating her spin instructor. Kidd and Foster talk about Severide and how Kidd wants to be there for him. He’s still invstigating the arson though. He and Boden piece together what happened. Someone cut the power, started the fire and then turned it back on. Oh and they bludgeoned the owner’s dog.

Severide takes plenty of pictures and brings them to Casey. They talk about it. Severide is convinced they’ve seen a similar case before. In order to keep from getting caught, Mouch, Herrmann, Otis, Kidd and Cruz have promised a floater a spot at 51. Boden doesn’t take the bait. Instead he sends them to wash trucks at the other house.

Severide is going through all the arson files ever to try and find a connection. Kidd finds him and asks if this is just a diversion from the Bennie stuff, then offers to help with that. He thanks her and keeps looking. Game night at Brett’s house so her spin instructor can meet Casey. It’s a bust though and very awkward but Casey and Brett get along well.

Still at the house, Severide is searching the files and gets a visitor. The salon owner tells him the injured woman will never walk again. Severide goes to see the arson captain. She’s got more evidence and when he sees it, something clicks. The caper team goes to wash the trucks and snarks with some folks there.

Brett goes to spin and talks to her instructor after. She tells Brett that she appreciates it but that Casey and Brett should be together. Speaking of Casey, he goes to visit Kyle and asks him to come by 51 more often. Severide takes a ride out to the cabin but not to clean up. He’s there to look at some old arson files and finds that it all matches. He goes to tell Boden.

So Brett and Casey are going to get together. It’s weird and fairly predictable. I miss Dawson. Why is Kidd willing to help with the Bennie stuff but not the investigation?
